Umani Ronchi's Fonte del Re is a Lacrima di Morro d'Alba that combines heady aromatics with an uncommon ease of drinking. Umani Ronchi is a company that has made history in Italian viticulture and has never lost sight of the primary objective of making wine: to produce qualitatively excellent expressions. 210 hectares of vines are cultivated, located between the most interesting areas of Marche and Abruzzo, including Conero and Castelli di Jesi, planted almost exclusively to local indigenous grape varieties such as Verdicchio, Montepulciano, Pecorino and Lacrima di Morro d'Alba. Fonte del Re red comes from pure Lacrima grapes, a red grape variety so named for its particular characteristic of releasing a drop of liquid when the grapes have reached full ripeness. The vines, located at altitudes between 150 and 200 meters on clay loam soils, are cultivated with low yields and harvested by hand to respect the quality of the fruit produced. After destemming, the must is fermented in steel tanks, with maceration on the skins lasting a maximum of 10 days. As soon as alcoholic fermentation is completed, malolactic fermentation is also carried out, with a subsequent 4-month aging in steel. Fonte Del Re Umani Ronchi goes down in the glass with an intense ruby red color, edged with violet reflections. The nose is immediately explosive and very intense, with obvious hints of red fruit of all shapes and sizes, intertwining with a bouquet of freshly picked violets. The sip, while showing low alcohol content, is full, rich and quite tannic, dominated by intense fruity sensations that almost make one think of the enjoyment of this nectar as that of juice. Splendid on local cured meats, among which we recall the very tasty Ciauscolo, it is also a companion to first and second course meat dishes. Bewitching and seductive.
