It is a label that, while inspired by the famous Bordeaux models, perfectly expresses the character of the territory of the Menfi estate. It is made from Merlot grapes and a small balance of Petit Verdot from a single vineyard. Thanks to a long aging in wood, it offers mature and complex aromas that captivate and seduce with notes of red fruit, floral and herbal nuances. Intense and persistent, it is an ideal red to enjoy with roasts, grilled meats or mixed grills. Sito dell'Ulmo is a Merlot produced by a winery that has been a leading player in the renaissance of Sicilian wine. It is a label that originates in Sambuca di Sicilia, within the territory of the Planeta estate in Menfi. The property covers a total area of 400 hectares, about 250 of which are devoted to viticulture. The grapes come from the Ulmo vineyard, planted in 1987 on the shores of Lake Arancio. The vines are grown at an altitude of about 200 meters above sea level, in a natural environment rich in forests and biodiversity. The area is characterized by alluvial soils, rich in pebbles, very draining and suited to the needs of Merlot. At the end of the harvest, the grapes are destemmed and fermented at a temperature of 28 °C, with maceration on the skins for a couple of weeks. The wine ages for 14 months in Allier barrels, 50% new, and completes aging with a few months in bottle before release. Planeta's Merlot Sito dell'Ulmo wine is a label that offers a beautiful version of the original Bordeaux grape variety, made with the intention of creating a rich and intense wine intended for long aging. To the eye, it has a bright ruby red color. Refined and elegant, it is distinguished by delicate floral aromas, aromas of small dark berry fruits, blueberry, currant, red plum, nuances of aromatic herbs and slight hints of spice. On the palate it is harmonious and soft, with a velvety tannic texture, ripe, complex and persistent aromas, anticipating a savory, long finish with great taste balance.
