Bonaventura Maschio

Having become a symbol of Made in Italy in the world thanks to the Prime Uve brand, created in the 1980s, Bonaventura Maschio has preserved, despite its success, its artisan nature and the close continuity with the family tradition. The history of the company is in fact inextricably linked to that of the Maschio family, starting from its origins: originally from Cismon del Grappa, at the end of the 1800s the Maschio family worked as itinerant distillers, earning a living by carrying their stills and distilling marc house by house. After years of extreme poverty and a brief emigration to Hungary and Romania, the family returned to Italy and settled in Gaiarine, a stone's throw from the bed of the Piave River. Here Antonio Maschio founded a distillation company, but it was his nephew Bonaventura who made an entrepreneurial change, creating Bonaventura Maschio in 1903. Today, after more than a century, which has seen the succession of several generations, the distillery is run by Italo Maschio, helped by his sons Anni and Andrea, who joined the company at a very young age. From the commitment, which has always distinguished the company, towards a qualitative revolution in the field of distillation, the idea of using grape must rather than marc was born, creating the grape distillate, an innovative and high quality product: Prime Uve. Grape distillate, contemplated by law only since 1984, belongs to the family of fruit distillates and therefore keeps the aroma and scent of the original fruit. The distillation process takes place in alembics to which are connected huge copper boules. In these big containers the monster is cooked in bain-marie, it is then transformed into steam and runs through the copper columns of the discontinuous alembic still, cooling down and finally flowing out as a pure and crystalline liquid. Grappas are also aged in barrique, in the same casks which previously hosted the same wine from which the pomace used to make them comes from. After having achieved great commercial successes, Bonaventura Maschio has never stopped innovating and experimenting, continuously getting involved in projects and initiatives such as the creation of scholarships and the promotion of the lifestyle of grappa as a whole. The great quality of its products, capable of expressing magnificent and refined aromas, has made the company an icon of the best made in Italy in the world, of that craftsmanship that knows how to combine family traditions and innovative spirit, great success and labels of great value.
