Marco De Bartoli's Passito di Pantelleria Bukkuram - Sole d'Agosto is undoubtedly one of Italy's finest sweet wines, a sumptuous, Mediterranean liquid that brings with it the warmth of its land. If we talk about Italian wine-making icons who have been able to match the fame they have acquired with a very high level of production, we cannot help but think of the De Bartoli winery founded in 1978 by Marco De Bartoli, when still a young man he decided to take over the management of the family baglio in Marsala and restore luster to a denomination compromised by cheap production, devoted only to productivity. The path marked out by Marco has been firmly followed by his children Josephine, Renato and Sebastiano, and to this day the De Bartoli name brings back shocking Marsalas capable of defying the centuries but also delicious sweet wines from the plots located in Pantelleria. Tradition, sensitivity and foresight are not abstract concepts, and the liquids speak of a land and a poignant legacy. Bukkuram Sole d'Agosto is a Passito di Pantelleria made from pure Zibibbo grapes from the Bukkuram contrada, with vines between 35 and 51 years old. In the vineyard, little interventionist farming is practiced, with particular attention paid to the degree of ripeness of the grapes, especially in the case of Bukkuram, with grape drying taking place partly on the vine and partly in the sun. In the cellar, spontaneous alcoholic fermentation and aging of 6 months in steel and rapid passage in non-new barriques before bottling continues. The Passito Bukkuram - Sole d'Agosto presents itself in the glass with a golden robe edged with amber reflections. Intense and persuasive nose, an island juice that tastes of orange blossom, dehydrated apricot, brackish reflexes and herbs. Full and creamy sip, punctuated by an invigorating sweetness that is never intrusive, but also enlivened by a timely contribution of freshness and savoriness. A true masterpiece.
