La Massa

Massa was born from the personal revolution of Giampaolo Motta, who with his powerful personality decided to invest in a dream. Raised in a family linked to the leather industry, after a brief career within the company he decided to devote his strength entirely in his passion. He studied chemistry at the oenological institute in Bordeaux, by whose labels he became bewitched. The dream of bringing to Italy the know-how absorbed transalpine and thus began a period of apprenticeship at some well-known companies in the Chianti region, later buying Azienda Agricola La Massa. After ten years, he leaves the Chianti Classico Consortium, now with the sole idea of experimenting with the Bordeaux soul with scientific respect for details. La Massa's labels come from soils rich in marl, a condition common to the entire Chianti Classico territory. Less well known is that this soil type is actually very varied and diverse in micro components, which often constitute a "terroir" with independent characteristics. Equally ignored is that it was the Medici Family that imported Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes from France as early as the 16th century, which is why this winery decided to grow them alongside Sangiovese. The grapes are harvested at different periods, starting in late August for the more precocious ones such as Merlot, until mid-October for Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. All blends are elevated in French oak barrels to give them a personality that imprints strong memories. La Massa, with its wines, shines a spotlight on a different conception of the Tuscan wine scene. "La Massa" is a blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot and represents the meeting of the rustic character of Chianti with the soul of Bordeaux, becoming almost the manifesto of Giampaolo Motta's idea. "Giorgio Primo," which is purely a Bordeaux blend, constitutes a superb demonstration of the skills of the entrepreneur, who brings together in a single bottle all his knowledge and passion in tender memory of his grandfather, to whom he had promised to dedicate a great wine. He succeeds masterfully.
