Aglianico Irpinia - Zi Filicela

Ciro Picariello's Aglianico Zi Filicella is a version of great expressive purity, allowing us to appreciate the work of one of Irpinia's vigneron most faithful to the characteristics of the territory. This is an artisanal reality committed to the enhancement of local native grape varieties, grown in some of the best areas of the region. The high hill position of the estate, the old Aglianico vines managed with great care and careful vinification, exclusively in steel, allow to fully appreciate the richness of a great red, in its best varietal expression. Zi Filicella is an Aglianico produced by one of Irpinia's most interesting wineries. Ciro Picariello manages a splendid estate with vineyards in different areas of the Avellino territory: 4 hectares in Summonte, 3 hectares in Montefredane, as well as a parcel cultivated near Montemarano, at an altitude of about 650 meters above sea level, from which the Aglianico grapes come. The vines are about 80 years old and are trained using an Aglianico ray trellis system, a traditional method of cultivation in the area, used before modern espalier systems became widespread. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and sent to fermentation, which takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, with maceration on the skins and periodic pumping over. Before bottling, the wine is aged for at least 24 months in steel tanks. Aglianico Zi Filicella from Ciro Picariello's winery is a deep red, made with grapes of great aromatic richness and concentration, which allow to bring to the fore and exalt the most typical varietal characteristics of Aglianico grown in Irpinia. To the eye it presents a rather dark ruby red color. Rich and elegant, it conquers with scents of black currant, wild blackberry, blueberry, floral nuances, officinal and balsamic herbs, delicate sensations of soft spices and slight mineral hints of graphite. The sip is broad and firm, with a dense tannic texture well integrated with dense, ripe fruit, accompanying a very persistent finish marked by pleasant freshness.
