Ciro Picariello

In 2004, Ciro Picariello together with his partner Rita Guerriero decided to inaugurate their winemaking adventure in Summonte, a stone's throw from Avellino. Today Ciro, who has now become an acclaimed winemaker in Irpinia, owns a vineyard area of about 15 hectares, located in the two small villages of Summonte, still home to the winery, and Montefredane. The first, precisely located toward the Angioina Tower (also shown on the labels), has a unique territorial conformation with soil of volcanic origin, composed of rocks and clays; the vines, moreover, soar at an altitude of about 650 meters, benefiting from the cooler climate of the area. The second, on the other hand, is populated by vines located about 500 meters above sea level on soil exclusively of a clay matrix. Different areas, different climatic conditions and different terroirs to give birth to unique and original wines. What the two estates have in common, however, is Ciro Picariello's maniacal care of his greenery and his vines, which aims to concentrate aromas and flavors, favoring maximum aeration and illumination of the bunch. Thus insecticides, herbicides or pesticides are forbidden in the vineyard, partial grassing is carried out and nature can thus express itself spontaneously. The Ciro Picariello winery raises the most typical grapes of the area: Fiano, first and foremost, followed by Greco, Falanghina and other red varieties such as Piedirosso, Aglianico and Sciascianoso. Clearly, Fiano di Avellino is the producer's dearest grape variety, grown on both plots, and used to give light to his famous and unmissable whites, particularly appreciated by critics and trade magazines. In the winery, on the other hand, steel tanks are used, both for the vinification phases and for the final aging of the wine. Ciro Picariello wines are great interpreters of the appellation, endowed with a typically territorial breath and sons of a sustainable and artisanal approach. Endowed with a rocky minerality, a sharp freshness and an energetic timbre full of personality, the Fiano di Avellino wines of the Ciro Picariello winery represent the most authentic mirror of Irpinia.
