J. Hofstatter

Hofstatter is a historic South Tyrolean brand, a first-rate operation run by the wise foresight of Martin Foradori, heir to an ancient family of winemakers in the area who owned excellent vineyards on the eastern side of the Adige Valley. The winery is based in Tramin, in an imposing 16th-century building. The family's goal has always been to combine in the best possible way the centuries-old tradition of their land with constant innovation: applying gentle, close-to-nature cultivation techniques. The extraordinary quality of Hofstatter wines confirms that this goal is achieved year after year, giving expressions endowed with great elegance and balance, in perfect South Tyrolean style. Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are the three most widely planted red grape varieties on the estates and give rise to important reds, not to mention the excellent feedback from Lagrein and Schiava. But Alto Adige is synonymous above all with excellent white wines, and Martin Foradori has proven to be an excellent interpreter of this excellence. He produces truly unique and distinctive Gewurztraminer, along with Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Muller Thurgau. From the prestigious high hillside vineyard called Vigna San Michele, a true cru of the Barthenau Estate, come celebrated and important expressions of Pinot Noir and Pinot Blanc, the spearheads of the entire production. Meticulous attention to detail and daily work in the estate's sunny, well-exposed vineyards are the secrets of the success of this important winery from Alto Adige. The attachment to the most authentic traditions of the land and the family has not prevented Martin Foradori from investing in technology and creating a state-of-the-art winery, building, for example, an avant-garde 'wine tower' above the cellar and equipping himself with new energy-efficient conical-shaped concrete barrels. The perfect combination of all the ingredients allows Hofstatter wines to place themselves, year after year, at the top of quality and thus represent with full merit the wine excellence of their land.
