Santa Barbara
Stefano Antonucci is a dynamic, outspoken and engaging person. In the early 1980s, after the difficult beginning with his father's few hectares, he lavished energy and passion to expand the property and create a solid and dynamic reality. Since its inception, Cantina Santa Barbara has had two main goals: to revive indigenous Marche grapes such as Verdicchio and Montepulicano, and to create wines that could have great personality while still respecting the tradition of the Marche land. One eye on the land, then, and one on the market; this is how Stefano gets modern but varietal, elegant, intriguing and persuasive wines. The 25 hectares owned and 15 leased, with vines ranging in age from three to 30 years, grow in Arcevia, Montecarotto, Serra de' Conti and Barbara, around 200 meters above sea level. The clay soils, with more calcareous and gravelly areas, placed on several slopes, give structure to the grapes, but just as much freshness and aromatic finesse. In the vineyards, most of the work is done by hand, seeking a balance between short pruning, targeted interventions on the greenery and thinning only when strictly necessary. It is the passion and the measures taken in the vineyard and in the cellar that give Santa Barbara's labels a unique and refined personality, impeccable and always dynamic. A reality, that of Santa Barbara, which has certainly contributed to restore luster to the native grape varieties of the Marche region.
